Polish workers to build power stations

I heard this on the radio last night. The French company that has been awarded contracts to build the new nuclear power stations in the UK will only be employing Polish workers. They have informed the unions that they will not employ British workers.

Bearing in mind that these jobs could be long-term, I find this extraordinary, especially as we have a country where unemployment will reach 3 million this year. If this was happening in Germany or France there would be riots IMO.

This is what happens if you let key infrastructure be sold off to foreign investors.

Would it be funny if they pulled the plug on all our power and water.

That’s because Britain’s only got ‘International Marketing Management’ and ‘Golf Course Management’ and ‘Media Studies’ graduates, who aren’t really very good at building nuclear power stations.

If this was Germany or France they'd have their own engineers and builders who can do the job.

I'm sure the job is not that skilled. There are such things as training after all. This is because of lower wages, long hours and avoidance of union interference IMO.

Funny, I thought the Germans were building em. I was at a new power station when the Germans were installing the control system. Talk about fannying about at random. Legendary Germanic effciciency. Not.

When was the last time a Nuclear Power station was built in Poland?

If, and it's a big "IF", all of the Polish workers have the relevant experience then fine. However, I think it's more likely to be a "Plenty Cheapness, Much Quickness" scenario.

I've no objection with some of these jobs going to foreigners, but 100% is a scandal, especially in a so-called socialist 'fair' society !!!

They’ll perhaps bring in experienced people who worked on some of those really brilliant high quality Soviet era nuclear power stations.
