    And now KPMG

Are putting staff on reduced hours

Staff at accounting and consulting giant KPMG have been told they can save their jobs by working a four-day week or taking a short break on 30% pay.

I’d love to do a four day week and I could miss the one day’s pay each week without really suffering. Lucky barstewards.

Good move by the employer though; they’ve probably put a lot of money into training people and if they can keep hold of them this way it’s better than chucking them all out.

Am quite surprised by this. I would have thought areas like financial management, auditing, compliance etc would be doing quite well in the current financial climate.

They will, but later on this year as the regulatory system is beefed up; that’s why KPMG are doing this; try to keep people on board so that when the banks have to hire in lots of consultants they’ll have the people to send in.
