    Our wonderful police chief

London's police chief Sir Ian Blair considered resigning after his force shot dead an innocent Brazilian they mistook for a suicide bomber.
He told the BBC's Hardtalk show that police should have scotched rumours Jean Charles de Menezes was wearing a heavy jacket and vaulted the barrier.

But he decided it was better to stay to help defend Britain from terrorism.

Thank god for such an heroic decision!

    How noble

It just makes you proud to be British, doesn't it though?
    Why not?

Should he resign do you think?

According to the leaked information, the Brazilian guy wasn't running, wasn't wearing padded clothing, didn't have a rucksack and didn't vault the barriers. This implies he was calmly walking down the street when the ploice pounced on him.

Trouble with these kind of stories is that you never know what the real truth is or not...

...I'll think about something else instead!!

      Older and ...well, just older!!

"But he decided it was better to stay to help defend Britain from terrorism. "

Nothing at all to do with the huge wage, pension, status etc.

        I preferred version 1!

Isn't that racist? He should be sent to a New Labour Gulag and re-educated.

Especially as a fair chunk of NL support comes from our skirt wearing 'chaps' in the north

You should have seen the Evening Standard this week.

They have three 'Gold' Commanders - which at best makes for a poor Chain of Command and the guy who was looking at the flats was off relieving himself when De Mendes came out.

I think it was the Times who reported a story from the SAS that they would not have passed any policeman who went through the weopons training because they were too gung-ho ( ie Shoot first and think later ).

Some heads should roll, starting with Sir Ian Blair and including the person who gave the order that led to the shooting - it was the woman who was one of the 'Gold' Commanders.

There equally should be a complete look at how the surveillance was undertaken and for crying out loud put two people at least on a surveillance. It's not exactly rocket science is it that some poor sod behind a camera might actually need to go to the toilet sometimes.

According to the Evening Standard six officers have been served notices that they could face charges of the de Menezes shooting. However the Officer in charge of the surveillance and the officer in charge of the shooting team are not among them.
