    The Great Bank Robbery

    Telegraph

... pride of place must go to the bank bosses: to Adam Applegarth, 46, who took Northern Rock over the edge and still walked away with a severance deal worth £63,000 a month and who has a pension fund worth more than £2 million from which he can start drawing at 55; to Andy Hornby, who was paid £630,000 in 2007 to run HBOS, augmented by an ''incentive'' of £1.7 million, and who drove it into the wall; and to Sir Fred Goodwin, chief executive of RBS, who was paid about £30 million in his 10 years with the busted company and left with a pension pot worth £8.4 million.

Between 2003 and 2007, the basic pay and cash bonuses (excluding share-based payments) of just five bank chief executives totalled over £52 million.

Even though the banks are virtually nationalised, some executives still have expectations of high salaries and bonus "incentives", as though the pay is not enough.

People like those are not stupid enough to support political parties like they would a football team (like some on here). They are happy to kiss the arse of hoever oils their wheels
The court heard Darren Upton had written a letter to Judge Sally Cahill QC saying he wasn’t “a typical inmate of prison”.

But the judge said: “That simply demonstrates your arrogance continues. You are typical. Inmates of prison are people who are dishonest. You are a thoroughly dishonestly man motivated by your own selfish greed.”

Thanks for the comparison. That's something I just don't get, maybe because I've never supported a football team. But it does explain some of the apparently irrational support of one party versus the world.

                Valid observation.

New Lie took Northern Rock over the edge by refusing a loan of 10 Billion pounds and leaking it to the BBC, causing a run on the bank that meant they needed a further 14 Billion. That 14 Billion has since been repaid by shrinking the mortgage book.
Money markets drying up has affected all banks throughout the World, but other countries saw sense and provided loans.

Adam Applegarth has been villified quite wrongly IMO, but of course HMG paid for his silence !!

I can't see the above post but no doubt he's telling us white a shyster the Northern Rock chairman was and how their weak business model of over reliance on the money markets and sub prime lending lead to their demise?
