When you turn up, put a pair of underpants on your head, a couple of straws up your nose and say "wibble" whenever anyone asks you something.
Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God? - Epicurus

spending some time in the cells after being done for contempt of court.

If you haven't deferred it before, then you write and ask for a deferrment. Explain that you run your own business, and that it's a crucial time etc. etc. and they may let you off. You will need to give them dates in the next year when it will be convenient for you to do it, and they will call you then.

Alternatively, shred the letter and don't turn up.

Alternatively, do the jury duty (as you really should) and claim on your jury insurance so that you aren't too out of pocket.

BTW - what's with everyone getting called up for jury duty at the moment - there seems to be loads of similar threads on CUK recently...

Don't put yourself on the electorial roll.

Get a criminal record then they wont ask you any more.

Claim that you know the defendant.
How did this happen? Who's to blame? Well certainly there are those more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable, but again truth be told, if you're looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror.

That would only work if there was only one trial - instead, you'll just have to wait for another one to start up, with nothing to do.

Knowing anyone involved in the case gets you off that particular panel, but not out of jury duty itself.

There was a situation with a lawyer / judge that was called and tried to get out of it because he knew everyone involved in the first four or five cases. He still had to wait until they found a trial he could do...

You can get out of it once can't you? Is that once ever or once every X years though?
