    Free Water!

As part of Mrs Durbs drive to go green i spent yesterday sawing guttering and downpipes to fit a rainwater diverter kit. Started raining as i went to bed last night so was rubbing my hands together thinking of the few litres i'd capture to water the veg.

Just come down this morning and checked my new water butt and unbelievably its filled an empty 136 litre barrel to the brim overnight!!

Thats us sorted for when civilisation collapses next week.

I have one on my double garage and it will fill in a couple of hours.

God knows why it is there anyway, there is a 65% chance there will be rain on any given day in Glasgow.

We have a monsterous conservatoire that the missus is slowly turning into some sort of Mars mission bio-pod. Takes some watering and the price we're paying on metered water is just criminal.

Dunno, but i'm sure i could buy the equivalent volume in Tesco lager for a lot cheaper. Not sure the Tomatoes would tolerate it though.

The problem with rainwater collection is that you are depriving the water table of water which is used for EVERYONE else.

If too many people did this, we'd have serious problems with supply.

That is why, in some countries, and also states in the USA, rainwater collection is forbidden.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

What a bizarre law. Luckily, i dont care about everyone else so it isnt an issue in my case.

Meanwhile back at the ranch, er, I mean in the UK, one of my neighbours ended up taking the roof off a disused warehouse because the water board wanted to charge him for sewerage - i.e the rain wot came off the roof was using their drains.
