Brown in 2003, when warned he was causing a debt problem
Brown in 2003, when warned he was causing a debt problem
Here is a question Vince Cable posed to Gordon Brown, then Chancellor, during Treasury Questions back in November 2003.

Cable: “The growth of the British economy is sustained by consumer spending pinned against record levels of personal debt, which is secured, if at all, against house prices that the Bank of England describes as well above equilibrium level. What action will the Chancellor take on the problem of consumer debt?”
Mr Brown did not answer how he would solve the problem, merely replying that: “We have been right about the prospects for growth in the British economy, and the hon. Gentleman (Mr. Cable) has been wrong.”
Here is a question Vince Cable posed to Gordon Brown, then Chancellor, during Treasury Questions back in November 2003. Gordon Brown - what an onanist.
It is rather funny. A guy with absolutely no qualifications in economics or finance telling a guy with a PhD in economics that he doesn't know what he's talking about.
Takes arrogance to a whole new level.
Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God? - Epicurus
Certainly doesn't take one to have more of a clue the the snot-goblin! I wonder if Cable fell about laughing when he received this amusing "reprimand"?

Brown knew what he was doing when he was Chancellor of the Exchequer and continues to fully understand the desperate state of the economy of the UK now that he is Prime Minister. He must never be allowed to hide behind the defence of incompetence or insanity.
How did this happen? Who's to blame? Well certainly there are those more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable, but again truth be told, if you're looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror.

Never ascribe to malice that which is adequately explained by incompetence
Right. So Brown was wrong. As were all those knighted Bankers like this pillock - Sir Fred.
Let it go. If you want to hang GB take all those bankers as well - the ones that are adding insult to injury and compounding their colossal mistakes (and making the recession worse) by eroding bank credibility even further by refusing to come clean about their toxic loans, and failing to do what they are supposed to do - make sensible loans to creditable businesses.
Brown may have been stupid, but I think he's way down the list on 'People who should be first up against the wall when the revolution comes'.
