The lunatics in charge of the asylum.

Well, the last 10 years our wonderful government has persecuted drivers who wanted a Jaguar, Range Rover etc... and did everything possible to discourage folk from buying them.

We happen to build those cars here in the UK employing 000's of workers, unlike the little tin cans they apparently want us to buy, made in East Europe, Korea etc...

Having now achieved their stated desire and nobody wants to buy a Jag/Landie, they now want to give £2.5 BILLION to the Indian owners of said companies.

    Go figure?

Dont talk crap. Its only right that big engined cars pay more VED than a car with an engine half the size and power.

Oh, and Im considering an XF or RR Sport and dont have a problem with the higher VED on either.
I couldn't give two fornicators! Yes, really!

Why do big engined cars need bigger more expensive roads?

          Why the confusion?

Bigger car = more wear on the road surface.
More power/torque = more wear on the road surface.

Why? They pay a LOT more fuel tax? BTW, I have a Peugeot 107, so no vested interest int he debate.

But "road tax" doesn't go towards the roads at all. Only fuel tax is anything like proportional to the size to the car.

Yes it does, all tax (except Council) goes into a central pot.

I'm sure you can trace the VED all the way through to the Council spending money on your local roads and the Highways Agency spending on motorways if you feel so inclined.

FWIW, I think that Road Pricing is the way to go. If you want to drive a lot, pay more - "It's only fair"TM.

Sorry, I just don't agree. If you want to drive a lot, pay more fuel tax. We simply do not need yet another tax. Far better to abolish VED and put it onto fuel taxation, 10p a litre say?

And, as the motorcyclists have been saying for years, HGV should be £150,000 per year, cars about £20 and motorbikes 1p.
