    Spread Betting

    To The Panel.

Does anyone have any insight into this. For example I have share options in the company I work for. If they rise I'm quids in. If they fall, I get nothing.

I would like to offset the possibility of a drop versus & hence make money, against that of an increase?

Would spread betting offer me this option? and would this be considered insider trading?

I would have thought that the horse has already bolted on that one?

Spreadbetting is chuffing dangerous if you don't know what you are doing. Can lose a lot. Talk to an IFA. CFDs give you good returns for "less risk".

and play around with some "monopoly money" for a while. Get the hang of things before committing hard earned pennies.

There was a case in the city a few years ago where a trader was doing spread bets based on info he had. He thought he could argue that they were not caught by the insider trading rules as spread betting is gambling. The judge threw his arguments out. So basically if your bets would be classed as insider trading if you did them with real shares or options then the same rules apply.

Good thanks. I've retired from Contracting. I live on an island in the South Pacific now.

I only do spread betting and CFDs and this year have only gone in with Barclays - Ive cleared now close to £21,000 PROFIT thanks to them as I bought when I posted in another thread.

The sick thing? I was going to go into a CFD for x10 the value lol - which would have got me back 210,000k in a matter of 15 days. Ahh well! hindsight...Longer term I beleive Barclays has the opp to get back toi over £4 but Im keeping a close eye on there next set of Interims - but this baby could make a lot of people some decent cash. But again - life is a risk

Lol - I will admit - I was waking with a smug look on my face last week! I dont trade much - but keep a good eye on the markets daily...and Barclays were just screaming for recovery.

Barclays, BP and going long on Brent Crude are extremely attractive.
