It's a pointless war that will not achieve anything.

It would be far better to invest in the country by using the poppy fields for producing medical grade drugs. That way, we get cheep legal drugs, and the illegal heroin trade is eliminated.

Without the heroin trade the Taliban will be nothing, and the improved income in the area will help drive growth and prosperity.

It's a strategic battle - with control of Opium and allowing Western forces for a well placed Base[s].

You dont really think we give a monkeys about stone-throwing-dated-russian-missile-launching Taliban do you

No one has ever defeated the Afghans.

They cant be defeated in a western sytle war, these people are of a different mind set to us, 1000 afghan soldiers killed are just replaced by another 1000 converts.......and so on.......

            Have they got oil?

Otherwise, this is the 4th Afghan war we've been in.

Remind me again who didn't win the last 3?

              Indeed.

Turning the tulipehole to glass is about the only way to win... and even then they'd come creeping out of their caves.

The soviets even gave up trying to beat them because they just kept on coming.

Anyone who's listened to the soldiers views on the war (on Ross Kemps documentary) will realise these people just keep on coming.

Im not saying i agree with their policies, etc. but who are we to invade another country anyway?

Well, considering that it is one of the few remaining engagements that keeps one of our few remaining industries going (Arms Manufacture), it may have a future.

When it ends, the only thing the UK will have left to make is babies.

And we do seem to be rather good at that, at least.
Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

None of the American wars is worth being in, because none of them is intended to achieve either an end that we would find morally worthwhile, nor even any profit to us or indeed anyone but the US.

This is the Project for a New American Century, nothing more.
