    The IT Crowd - 01189998819991197253

Remember that episode where they replaced 999 with a new catchy easy to remember privatised phone number?

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/news...lling-999.html

Text 66101 for police instead of calling 999 #

Victims of crime will be able to text their local police force for assistance rather than call 999, under a new national scheme.

Who cares whether we call/text : they still wont turn up.

Unless you say you have caught the offender and are about to shoot him....

Hasn't there been a spate of people calling 999 becuase their Pizza is late, the car won't start, the wrong person won Pop Idol etc? Hence this number
The court heard Darren Upton had written a letter to Judge Sally Cahill QC saying he wasn’t “a typical inmate of prison”.

But the judge said: “That simply demonstrates your arrogance continues. You are typical. Inmates of prison are people who are dishonest. You are a thoroughly dishonestly man motivated by your own selfish greed.”

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

They've splashed £3.5 million on advertising that. Yesterday it wasn't working.

How much difference does anyone think it will make to policing?
