Today's Darwin award goes to .........

    .... stupid Turkish pilots.

The pilots thought that a faulty altimeter was not a problem, even though the plane was landing on automatic pilot. What idiots !!

Makes a pleasant change from them following a GPS course into a mountainside.

They never did get an answer to that plane crash at Heathrow a year or so ago where the engines appeared to cut out and the plane landed before the runway. This sounds mighty similar to me and would explain it.

I remember watching a documentary on ch4 about a south american flight where the altimeter was faulty. They took off over the sea and got to what they thought was the correct height when a warning came on to say they were too high (which could lead to the plane breaking up). A few seconds later it came on to say they were too low. Any small adjustment they made caused one of the warnings to come on. They didn't know whether to go up or down, By the time they realised they were feet above the sea it was too late. As they attempted to correct one off the wings hit the water and dragged the plane under.

Turned out some grease monkey fitted the wrong part during a service.
The court heard Darren Upton had written a letter to Judge Sally Cahill QC saying he wasn’t “a typical inmate of prison”.

But the judge said: “That simply demonstrates your arrogance continues. You are typical. Inmates of prison are people who are dishonest. You are a thoroughly dishonestly man motivated by your own selfish greed.”

I spend a lot of time looking at the flight details on those seat monitor thingies.
You are flying at 650 mph, heading south at an altitude of 40,000 feet.

I will be paying even more atention in future

last time I flew it told me we were doing 450mph at 200 ft when we had landed. Maybe they connected up to that system?

that happend on a submarine once, the torpedo tube water sensor got painted over. So the sailors thought the bow covers were shut and opened the tubes to load a torpedo - and whoosh - who left that fkn door open?
