    Real IRA vs Continuity IRA

    What's the difference?

Is it a bit like the People's Front of Judea / Judean People's Front?

    #2
I think the Real IRA are the, er, genuine IRA and the Continuity IRA are the, er, IRA that take over in the event that the Real IRA suffer a powercut or something.
Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Not very much difference at all, if the past couple of days are anything to go by.

They both split off from the PIRA at different times, for the same reason (wanted to keep on fighting). I think there was a bit in the original IRA constitution that says that any IRA faction that joins in peace talks isn't a legitimate faction any more, which is how these groups claim a bit of legitimacy, but they've got hardly any support.

Go on, admit it. You just made that up !

There is however, a Fractional IRA, and it's rumoured that there is a Fictional IRA.

There is even, allegedly, an LIRA, who are the Italian division.

Na, they gave up years ago, taken over by the Provisional IRA. Just to confuse things.

Pretty much apart from the violence being tragically real.

Which is why it was funny when it was written (Monty Python, not the whole Irish thing)
