Work closed off to UK companies on new nuclear sites in GB.

Nearly one third of the work involved in the construction of nuclear reactors in Britain will be shut off to UK companies, the French group that is expected to build most of them said yesterday.

Areva will make key components for the stations in France and leave British companies to compete with suppliers from the rest of the world for the remaining lower-value work.

There again, did we expect anything different when awarding the contract abroad?

Areva, which is 85 per cent-owned by the French Government, said that 30 per cent of the parts for the new stations would be built at its own factories, mainly in France, and shipped to Britain for final assembly. This will include many of the largest and most complex components, including specialist reactor forgings.

Speaking at a suppliers' conference in Birmingham, Areva said that British companies would be invited to bid for the remaining 70 per cent of the programme, along with suppliers from other countries, such as Japan, Germany and the United States. This will include the supply of everything from concrete to the manufacture of pumps and safety equipment.
Let's hope that with the weak pound we can grab some of the remaining 70%?

Depressing but hardly surprising with this stupid, cretinous, villainous, vacuous, idiotic government in power, eh?
    Hard Brexit now!

It's ok....France will surrender within 20 minutes of us invading and Areva will become a British company anyway.

It's all in the plan I tell ya!

Tell that to all the people at GEC who lost their jobs when Alsthom asset stripped their company...

They didn't so much buy the company but the order book. Then they shipped most of the powerplant production to France.

...and begin the journey towards inevitable bankruptcy.

..and as soon as France becomes the new South East of England, we'll kick all the frenchies out of Areva and replace them with the fine upstanding brits who lost their jobs.

Come on - keep with the program. It'll work I tell ya!

Naah...it won't be a problem, honest. Everyone hates the French, and the Germans will be too busy plotting our downfall at the 2012 olympics and stopping us from getting the next world cup in football.

I've thought it all through. It'll work!
