Anyone know why The Norwich Union has been renamed Aviva ?

Anyone know why The Norwich Union has been renamed Aviva ? ......

Is it because the holding company have decided to dump the 200 year old 'Norwich Union' title as they think that anything that is British or sounds British is a 'risky' asset /gamble and is therefore a 'bad' bet ?????

or is it just to do with economies (savings) made on re-branding under one single name ?

Probably some smart branding company that reckons it will have more "international appeal"... the Norwich Union brand is "holding them back" from becomming even bigger....

Like when BA decided to ditch their logo, so no-one could work out whether they were on the right plane...

Or better still, those pesky loan-to-capital ratios that the banking sector had long followed, but which were holding back RBS from growing... sheer genius

they changed the name a while ago. agree with the other explanations, generic name so not to sound too provincial or hated in ipswich. pm(marlboro) changed their name to altria for no good reason other than to confuse the public.

        Marketing....

Some marketing company will earn millions from this.

Then there'll be all the promotional work, the stationary, etc....

that was noted when pm changed to altria with the multicolored (yank company) logo that would create the most expensive business cards know to man.

I always thought it was because cyber-squatters had nicked the 'NorwichUnion' domains, so they made up the word Aviva and obtained the domains before they told anyone.

I thought the same about accenture and centrica.

And if someone had nicked all the 'labour' domains, they could have made up a suitable word for their site too, like uselesscunts or incarnatewinkers.

Have you ever been to Norwich?

Bumfluffpickers was their preferred choice before they came up with Aviva.

It's a useless name, I can also think of co's called, Areva, Arriva and Aveva. Is that confusing or what? Stupid name change if you ask me

This can backfire however, do we remember Royal Mail became Consignia and then people hated it - and now it's back to Royal Mail.

The brand-awareness-marketing muppetry must be laughing themselves senseless.

ISTM that they changed their name so that we could confuse them with a bus company instead
