The Open Society (and its Enemies)

Soros argues that besides the requirements for the separation of powers, free speech, and free elections, we also need to make explicit a strong commitment to the pursuit of truth. "Politicians will respect, rather than manipulate, reality only if the public cares about the truth and punishes politicians when it catches them in deliberate deception."

The problem is, you start talking to politicians about the concept of "the truth" and the majority of them won't have the faintest idea what you are going on about!
Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God? - Epicurus

      Corrected that for you.....

Sadly it's a utopian ideal, those who seek to lead us are probably the least suitable for the job since they value the power that leadership brings far more than doing the "right thing".
