    Divorce payouts

Theres a news today about Mel Gibson's wife could get half of his wealth after 28 years marriage.

I always wonder and would like to know the reason, how on earth it is justifyable to handout someones hard earned earnings to someone with whom he is seperating anyways.

If someone has earned all his money by himself, he would definitely share with wife when they are still in relation but why if they are seperating?

Why the law is such naive ??

28 years, seven kids ... I think she's earned it.

Bad example to pick. Or are you trolling?

Because he couldn't have earned it without her help, encouragement and support for 28 years.

Muslim law is better in this respect. Unless you are a woman.

Well that's going to be law soon for people who have been co-habiting for 2 years. Not sure if it'll always be a 50 - 50 split but I can see a good trousering in store for a lot of people from those lovely family lawyers.

Isn't it worth it for having to live with Mel Gibson? I can't even watch one of his films.

With dure respect, Im afraid i dont buy this emotional idea. Does that mean Gibson wouldnt be that famous and rich if he wouldnt have married to that lady.

If thats the case, then if she would have spent 56 (28 X 2) years with marriage, Would she get all his money?

Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: why not marry safe science if you love it so much. In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired. - Cave Johnson

I have to agree with you somewhat here.

Some people are just very good at what they do and will succeed and make money no matter what. I doubt very much that being married to Mrs Gibson had very much impact on his ability to act and make money at all - indeed if he had no family commitments one could argue that he may well have had more time to invest in filmmaking and therefore gotten even more rich. Certainly I imagine she was able to spend a fair amount of his money during their time together which otherwise would have contributed to his wealth mountain and having seven kids will certainly have hit his wallet somewhat!

Now she wants to seperate herself from the goose that lays the golden eggs, but still wants the eggs? Bah - let her go back to Dental nursing I say.

Mel can keep the kids and feed them.

EDIT: Just read that she wants to seperate from him because he spends time with younger women than her. He hasn't been caught committing adultery, but she is treating it as though he has - she should get nowt.
