    Piratebay - decision today

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/8002171.stm

Here is a moral dilema, Piratebay (for those of you who do not use it) is basically a site with links to torrent downloads. Click on a link and the torrent will add itself to your torrent client and begin downloading.

The founders of Pirate bay claim that if their site is deemed illegal, then "then the whole internet is just as damned because it too is based on the premise of links" and that there is no difference between their site and Google.

I will admit to using the site, usually on a try before you buy basis. I do still buy, SW, apps,cd's etc.....

What do you all think will happen? Burn in hell with Napster?

Sell out like Napster if found guilty? Set up servers in a neutral country and carry on regardless?

Either way, this will go on for a while yet, with appeals etc...I'm hoping the courts go in their favour just to put one in the face of the yanks.
Who has time? Who has time? But then if we do not ever take time, how can we ever have time?

Do you think they make much money from advertising?

The rumours are they make quite a bit, but spend it all on maintaining the site & servers etc.....

I thought they had a good case

Just been reading around this and came across an article on the Wired Blog titled "Pirate Bay Says It Can't Be Sunk, Servers Scattered Worldwide" from last year:

Peter Sunde Kolmisoppi, one of the four Swedes charged in Sweden on Thursday, said in a telephone interview that the site has set up a clandestine, double-blind operation with its servers spread throughout the world -- and out of reach of the Swedish authorities.

"The Pirate Bay is not in Sweden," the 29-year-old Kolmisoppi said.

            Where are the servers?

"It's a distributed system. We don't know where the servers are. We gave them to people we trust and they don't know it's The Pirate Bay," Kolmisoppi said. "They then rent locations and space for them somewhere else. It could be three countries. It could be six countries. We don't want to know because then you'll have a problem shutting them down."
Where are we going? And what’s with this hand basket?

Anyone who wears a baseball cap backwards deserved to be jailed.
