I've just been watching a 1959 Hollywood (?) B&W film called "The Angry Hills", starring Robert Mitchum among others, and was mildly surprised to see a long and quite sexy scene with a topless dancer. This must be one of the earliest Hollywood films to show bare tits, and I was wondering if anyone could think of any older ones.

Film of Nudes was not unknown in the Victorian era. The Tate even did a show which included them called "Exposed: The Victorian Nude". This included such gems as "A French Lady's Bath" and "Lady in Her Boudoir." (see http://www.upi.com/inc/view.php?Stor...6-124727-8909r
Depends of course on your definition of mainstream. While films themselves were not as big as they were in the 2nd half of the 20th Century or the start of the 21st such shorts were popular until the idea of a plot and fiction films was created at the start of the 20th.Comment
