Dress code for a 1* Michelin restaurant?

I'm trying to organise something nice for my birthday in September. One option is for me and Mr C to go to the Michelin restaurant not far from us.. The only hiccup is that Mr C got the vapours when I mentioned the dreaded term 'suit and tie'. But I'm not absolutely sure what the dress code will be and I don't want to phone them up to ask before I speak to my esteemed fellow contractors who did this kind of thing all the time before the banks p1ssed our day rate up the walls..

So what is a suitable outfit for a chap when going to one of these establishments?

Depending on the establishment "Smart cas" can be equally acceptable as a suit & tie or suit & no tie.

What is embarrassing is turning up at a place where a tie &/or jacket is required, but they generally aren't "hip" or "trendy" places, so best to phone / check website.

Any restaurant that requires a suit is not geared to serve its customers.
If you have to serve the resturant by dressing up, its a bad restaurant by definition, should not be patronised and deserves to go bust.
Do you want some cook to tell you how you must dress?
      Hard Brexit now!

I'm surprised by the "Hollywood" attitude there sas.

Generally, restaurants don't care much these days - it's the private dining clubs that are snooty...

Erm.... pick up the phone and ask the restaurant themselves rather than a bunch of geeky IT contractors?

That’s one way of guaranteeing you get the table at the back next to the toilets.

Damn, I want one of those t-shirts seeing as Metallica only formed in '81
Brexit is having a wee in the middle of the room at a house party because nobody is talking to you, and then complaining about the smell.

Can we add 'know-alls' to Drewster's list?
