    Italian coup de'recherche.

A group of Italian researchers revealed how they conned their university into subsidising weeks of drunken debauchery, clubbing and smoking by holding clipboards and pretending to be all scientific, like.

In what might be the greatest tenuous premise yet - purporting to be investigating cognitive neuroscience re the specialisation of right and left brain hemispheres - they conducted 3 studies:
    • Going clubbing, and watching 286 fellow clubbers.
    • Going clubbing (again), and blagging smokes from people, and
    • More of the same, working out how to blag more smokes.
Students worldwide are said to be 'well chuffed' with their Italian counterparts' groundbreaking precedent-setting, and hope to fabricate similar premises around female predatory sexual behaviour, correlation between IQ and class A drug consumption, and auditory responses to loud rock music in a festival setting.

A paraphrase of the above can be found here. (SFW)

    Good on 'em.

At least I imagine the Italians did it with style, good haircuts and natty suits. They could probably dance as well.

If British students did this research, they'd just look like a bunch of pissed-up arseholes in slightly soiled GAP jeans and T shirts blundering their way around and trying to locate the toilets.

You've come right out the other side of the forest of irony and ended up in the desert of wrong.

tut tut these people....they should bring back national service!

Their behaviour is a disgraceful waste of public money. Having studied Geography and having only made use of taxpayer funded field trips to the Bay of Naples, the Portuguese coast, Cornwall and Goa, strictly to research the pull factors influencing migration to warm sunny coastal areas, I am appalled that scientists should allow themselves to act in such an indisciplined fashion. Really, they give us all a bad name.
And what exactly is wrong with an "ad hominem" argument? Dodgy Agent, 16-5-2014

All I remember from my geography studies is ox-bow lakes and rift valleys.

No, don't tell me - you're bored (now there's a rare thing..) and you're currently wondering where you can get hold of a clipboard...

Not bored... procrastinating. I think there's a difference.

                    Very true.

..the difference is that you're proactively unproductive...
