I've tried a few but found Direct Line was cheaper than the 95% of the market the comparison sites claim to cover, I had to get a quote as a new customer though as they did try to bump it up.
Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: why not marry safe science if you love it so much. In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired. - Cave Johnson

MoneySavingExpert.com has some good advice on this, and suggests combining the results from MoneySupermarket and GoCompare to get a broad selection of quotes.

                  Funnily enough...

Last week the Mrs & I spent about three hours going through eight price comparison web sites to get car insurance.

Beware of the "voluntary excess" and "compulsory excess". They all add both.

In the end we went with ... the bricks and mortar broker we have been using for about six years 'cos they were £2 cheaper than the cheapest on-line one. As they always are.

                  Motaquote in Windsor Road, Neath.

These online sites must be making money hand over fist.
