    We're all Urumqians Now ...

Around 140 people had been killed in a riot in Urumqi, the capital of China’s western-most region of Xinjiang, state media and local reports said on Monday, as the Beijing government faced the most severe unrest in ethnic minority areas since the rioting in Tibet last March

So where are the outcrys from The Telegraph and the ususal suspects on this a la Terhan Riots - ah just perhaps - theres that wee matter that China could torpedo the Dollar any momnent it choses ...never mind they are a repulsive Communist state whose millitary have openly threatened the US with nukes and continue their illegal occuptaion of Tibet - they are our business partners so we look the other way.,

BTW - Ive just taken a look at some of the threads on the recent Tehran 'riots' on this board - some of the comments are really rather funny.

Another thread from captain stupid, who can only see things in black or white.. no wonder IT people are ill equipped for any job that requires logic and commonsense.

There are some major fundamental differences between the regimes of China and Iran. China the Western economies are hugely interdependent upon each other, this means that although China is a totalitarian (of sorts) and autocratically governed country the West does have considerable influence on its activities.

iran on the other hand has little interdependece upon the West economically. It is also run by a council of essentially religious nutters who delegate the practical running of tthe country to a "democratic" system which is run by someone with their approval. The upshot is that ultimately they can do what they like as economically they have little dependence upon the rest of the world.

This may seem at odds with your simple logic but each country has to be treated differently. China therefore is much more easy to influence through diplomacy and business than Iran. It would be therefore stupid to deal with them through your own narrow and intellectually challenged prism of "what is right and what is wrong".

At least we have some jobs that need logic and commonsense : unlike pimps who require stupidity, ability to pigeon-hole and aggression. And most of all no scrupples.

Rahter than being an exercise on the 'right/wong ' of these events , my comments were aimed at the Media's recent presentation/manipulation of these events - which are very revealing in their own right and do reflect the underlying real politic of the situation .

In other words - any nation that we can profit from - we can turn a blind eye when they commit murder - any nation we cannot profit from - we will be relentless with our criticism and even wage war - even if that means telling a pack of lies to justify it.

You should also note that China is very much a Totalatarian and Communist Society - not 'of sorts' as you suggest.

So are you saying that a car crash in Cape town caused by a drunk driver should be given equal attention as a similar incident in London?
