Question for the experts - Wilmslow style - lawnmowers

    afternoon all,

just cut the grass, and the mower, apart from smoking from the exhaust,
there's kind of a stream of blue smoke coming from the engine somewhere

guess it's burning oil, guess the only solution is to keep the oil topped up ?

    it's a qualcast cylinder mower

any ideas, will it break if I continue to use it like this

i guess it'll run 'till it breaks

    Milan.

Needs engine rebuild - IIRC blue smoke is an indicator of knackered pistons.

I've knackered a few cylinder mowers over the years - mostly from cutting grass that is too long. Now, I really like my stripes so what I do now is cut the grass with a rotary and then finish the job with my Atco 28 incher. A snip 2nd hand from Ebay at 120 quid!

                  wurzel,

                  agreed,

                  Igor, thanks for the book,

hmmm, I reckon it is problem that i've been letting the grass get to long and then revving the blx out of the machine to cut it

oh well, got a spare one at the homestead so have to get that one sent over

there is a fantastic company which have supplied me spares, these damned more modern cylinder mowers have got plastic gears and belts instead of the centrifugal clutch and metal gears like on the old suffolk punches and these newer ones, you get something jamming the blades and they strip the teeth of the gears

this is the company, shoulders of shoreham...

is that a cracking website or what ?

still I reckon spares for this one, it'll be cheaper to get a new second hand one

                  Milan.
