    CV's and company name changes

Bored last night so started to have another look at my CV in case I need it any time soon *wishful thinking* and while looking though it realised about 80% of my previous contracts were for companies that technically no longer exist due to renaming, mergers and acquisitions

So that got me wondering, should I update my work history to their current name (or more exactly company that bought them out) or should I leave it at what company was called when I was there?

In some cases that would mean changing from company no one outside a very small sector would have heard of, to one everyone and their mother would know, so huge benefit for me, but would it be viewed as "dishonest" or just keeping everything up to date?

You could always do what I did; stick it all down under your Ltd with your role as 'Director'.

Confuses the hell out of pimps...

    Older and ...well, just older!!

I used to hire contractors as a permie and the people who did that went straight in the bin.

            I have the same dilemma.

Some of the companies that I have worked for in the past no longer exist but the most common occurance is for the unit that I worked for now belongs to a completely different company.

If it is a simple company name change then I change the name on the CV accordingly.

Otherwise I leave them as they were. I might change that policy depending on what crops up on this thread!

Almost everywhere has worked has gone. I wonder why? Anyway, my CV says:
ABC Computer Services (now part of Megacorp Industries)

BT Naff Network Suction (now ConnectYouUpia)

Plimpton Town Council (now Inventedshire County Council)

              but it looks crap.
My all-time favourite Dilbert cartoon, this is: BTW, a Dumpster is a brand of skip, I think.

It ain't about the power, I do not want to see "5 years as a director of my own IT consultancy working for various finance companies" but rather "2 years JP Morgan, 2 Years Lloyds, 1 year RBS"

                    It's a total no brainer.
