    Jobserve application hit rate

I've clicked up 48 applications since looking last thursday. No sniffs yet, although I remember last Christmas I was on the bench for a while and get 1 interview for over 180 apps. I got it, and that is now coming to an end.

So, to poll this, who has the highest application to interview hit rate?
    18
    <200
    83.33%
    15
    300 - 400
    11.11%
    2
    400 - 500
    0.00%
    0
    >500
    5.56%
    1

    The poll is expired.

    Cocked that poll up!

    Answer was 245.

And AndyW helped too. With a chutney spoon.

Too late for AndyW option. Darn it, I'm slipping.

In my speciality (if you can call it that - perl isn't that specialized) there's no way I *could* have clocked up more than literally half a dozen applications in the last month, because that's all there have been on Jobserve, and PHP and .Net aren't much better.

Can you bone up on some other language that is more popular? This is part and parcel of the problem I think. If it takes you 250 apps to get one interview buy you are only applying for 25 gigs a week.

And the 200-299 range is absent. And 400 appears twice.

And my response included non-Jobserve applications too.

Well I tend to have quite a high interview rate per application. But even so it's scary how few relevant contracts are being posted.

I've toyed with the idea of boning up on C++. But from past discussions here it appears one could never hope to compete with people who have used it for donkey's years (although it could still be a useful adjunct to some other primary skill).

python I won't to touch on principle, due to its retrograde step of using text alignment to indicate logic.

Probably Java would be the most beneficial otherwise, assuming that is gaining market share at the expense of C++.

For what I need to know, the poll is perfect.

Applied for about 6 jobserve roles zero response on any. 2 gigs this year niether from jobserve. I answered less than 200 but that has probably skewed the results a bit
