Hello, which p2p file-transfer software does the job these days? It's been a few years since I use to do it - I used Kazaa and Emule then, but haven't been following it since.

I was well impressed with BitTorrent, but got drowned in a sea of popups and credit-card registration sites when trying to find torrents.

Call me paranoid, but aren't half these p2p clients riddled with spyware/adware and whatnot?

Saying that, can anyone recommend a client with a web interface?

Bittorrent certainly rocks like a badman possessed.

For you client use Azureus (link in post above) you will need Java but guess most people here should be capable of making sure this is installed...

This software does not contain any spyware, you are more likely to pick up tulip using edonkey and the likes.

http://thepiratebay.org and http://www.mininova.org/ is where you browse for the torrent files to download the gear to your PC (or mac if you that way inclined).

Torrent great for software, vids and movies (just finished the full first series of Lost and the first four episodes of the second series - for the missus of course and just for evaluation purposes) but not so good for decent music. If you looking to use P2P to find good tunes then have a go on SoulSeek - http://www.slsknet.org/, superb community of music loving freaks.

P2P still rocks but stay away from the kiddie software.

BitComet - has links to about a dozen Torrent hosting sites and a search function, using 3 of those sites.

Ive had download speeds of 600K, which is really only surpassed by a site such as Microsoft on my connection (8 Megabit). Average is around 300K for 2 or 3 simultaneous popular downloads. Azureus also offers very good speeds but the last version ive used did not have search built in.

eDonkey is great in terms of breadth of content, but sometimes you get fakes...

I run BitComet 24/7 on my laptop (silent - and its hooked up to my TV / AV system via an S-VHS output, has iTunes to manage the other half's iPod - v handy for music and movies and synching with the PDA/phone via wireless lan). Plan is to move to an ITX box with a wireless connection, and the equivalent of TiVO.
