Swedish mattress sales set to Boom

For a world first, the announcement came with remarkably little fanfare.

But last month, the Swedish Riksbank entered uncharted territory when it became the world’s first central bank to introduce negative interest rates on bank deposits.

And the web site for the bank in question - bear in mind this is Sunday - says:

Due to high user load, we kindly ask you to try your request again after a few minutes.
(And why is that in English?)

        http://swea.riksbank.se/ gives:

Would YOU lend this bank money? (I bet the one-eyed Scottish idiot does...)

Yeah, I got the high user load message as well. I wouldn't get too excited about the message being in English; much cheapness and plenty quickness is not noted for fluency in European languages.

I think I read about this a few days ago.

If the link is still down, I believe the general gist is to discourage banks from hoarding their capital reserves and to lend it out to the common folk.

              Ditto.

              There was me thinking Ulrika-ka-ka.

              Then again, perhaps not.
