As one who spent most of his adult life in London I can sympathise.

    I managed to escape eventually.

Loved it when I was in my 20s (early 1980s) but it's become a filthy, expensive, crime-ridden shytehole now. I avoid it as much as possible.

You've come right out the other side of the forest of irony and ended up in the desert of wrong.

As a Glaswegian living and working down here, what do you mean?! It's the best, love it. Just met up with an Edinburgh punter who I worked with this year in London, and he's whinging that he no longer goes out every lunch time for 4 beers. Is expected to put the hours in etc etc now that's he's back ... London baby!

I can understand that completely, Sal. I turned down a four month extension to get out of London, and am hoping for something handy near home to turn up.

I absolutely hated the two years I was there - project was good, people I was working with were pretty decent, I just can't stand London.

Enjoy it - it's obviously the price for being a Geordie in Sunderland!!

I've a reasonable chance to get a decent role in IB stuff on Canaray Wharf... but the cost of living close enough makes the rate (£400) look a bit mediocre (I figure I'm down to £300 tops after accommodation & transport) and I can't see the point of going to work in London if I don't get a ton of cash for it. I suppose getting an IB gig would be good for future gigs... but only if I continue to work in London long-term
