what is the ultimate banger Contractor-mobile???

I need a car for the winter to do 110 miles per day.

    Brief:

    Cost £1K-£2K
    Economical
    Petrol (NOT DIESEL)

    Any ideas
Faster, faster, faster, until the thrill of speed overcomes the fear of death.

Patience is something you admire in the driver behind you and scorn in the one ahead.

An old Saab 900i served me well as a winter car on an 80 mile round trip every day, but that was more than 10 years ago. It was excellent in snow and ice. Total cost of repairs over a couple of years was 4 new tyres and an exhaust.
Behold the warranty -- the bold print giveth and the fine print taketh away.

                Something like this.

Cheap, still looks modern, plenty of cheap servicing and spares, highly regarded handling.
