    Hello Forum,

Which antivirus software (free downloads from the internet) would you recomend? A friend of mine mentioned Avast.

You advice will be very much appreciated.

            I don't run antivirus software.

            You don't need it.

Every now and again I use several free online scans and there are never any infections.

It's a scam to pay for bloatware you don't need.

Microsoft Security Essentials - released yesterday, but I've been running the beta for a while. Very lightweight with almost daily updates.

Before that I was running Avira AntiVir, and before that Avast!
Where are we going? And what’s with this hand basket?

Computers used to get viruses from infected floppy disks and email attachments.

Now all email servers scan and remove viruses from emails and people don't swap disks.

It's all very 1990's this virus protection on the desktop thing.
