    Contracting in the Middle East

    Hello All,

I am hoping you guys can shed some light on contracting in the middle east? I have been in IT for a number of years (both perm and contracting) and have noticed there is alot of money to be made contracting in the Middle East (Kuwait, Israel etc).

Other than the obvious worries (terrorism, governemnts etc) are there any tips you can give? Have any of you given it a try?

Also, do you know any UK based recruitment agencies that specialise in this work?

    Thanks in advace

    Paul
    Kind Regards,

    Paul

I was under the impression that the big bucks that could be made in the ME had gone since India exported their "professionals" there for peanuts?

Hell yes!! WHS for sure. Where did you get the impression there is money to be made. The golden hayday of contracting out there is well and truely dead. Many contracts nowadays are equal if not worse what you can get in the Uk and it is often very hard work with the culture differences etc. Ok ok there is the tax breaks i guess but its not exactly mega bucks.

It can be very hard work. The culture is so different, very little english spoken, crowded in to enclaves or nominated hotels so can't even enjoy the culture, health issues, religions to be strictly observed and so on. In days gone by this could be put up with now to earn mega bucks but not now imho.

Of course there are many that will say its the best thing ever. Choice is purely a personal one.

Monster do a Gulf section and there are many agents dealing purely in those areas.

I, like a lot of Indians, used Dubai as stepping stone to Britan. I worked as an office boy in Emirates Bank and funded my degree in medical matters at the University of Woolangong. I was there for 9 years. There are many Indians in technical roles these days. I hope this helps.

This one's just rubbish. Even worse than Chetty

Hasn't there been enough of people pretending to be someone they're not?

Yeah, what's with the "let's pretend I'm Indian" fetish the sockpuppet masters feel is somehow amusing?

Have some imagination you sad winkers.
