About the job

December is, naturally, a very busy time of year for Royal Mail. To help us handle the increased volumes of mail we require casual workers to help with sorting in our processing and distribution centres.

Sorting the mail is an important task; the first step to ensuring all those Christmas cards and presents get delivered to the right address!

This type of role involves:

* Sorting items by hand into compartments on a sorting frame
* Bagging and labelling mail for its destination
* Moving mail around the office between conveyor belts, loading docks and trolleys
* Moving mailbags from cages, sorting mailbags and bundles of mail into cages
* Loading and unloading wheeled containers from vehicles to the dispatch areas

The pay rate form is a bit broken in that the length of service field is empty.

Your basic starting pay depends on your age when you join us. Below you'll find a guide as to how much you can expect to earn in your role. All the pay details shown below are based on a 40 hour week and for part-time positions, this amount will be pro-rata.

Do you suppose that people that desperate are all literate?
Add in the possibility of industrial sabotage, and I think you're going to have to be either brave or foolhardy to send anything of value by Royal Mail.
I actually thought we had a decent postal service in this country once (better than many other places abroad). This all seems like Scorched Earth politics.
