    Change Manager

    Three times now in the past two weeks agencies have told me that they need a 'Change Manager'. I then have to explain to them as a Project Manager I implement change and therefore a PM is a CM.

    They still don't get it.

      This is what I end up doing but its sad that the agents dont even know the basics of a role. No wonder that most actively encourage the clients to make the sector experience an essential requirement - it just makes the agents job easier because they have a smaller number of CVs to look at.

        You are probably right but in some companies a "Change Manager" is more like a release manager, so they have a much higher throughput of much smaller work packages than a normal project manager.

          Well, I`ve never heard of a CHange Manager being the same role as Project Manager. Change Management links in with Configuration Managerment/Config COntrol including release managerment, build management etc.

            Another definition is the Change Manager is embedded within the section / department / unit being changed and acts as a 'change champion' whilst the Project Manager is external to that business unit. (Seen that in a local authority and a utility.)

                CMs manage changes to live BAU systems, PMs manage projects. It pains me to say it but I'm with the pimp on this one.

                    You'd make a better Release Manager than a Change Manager* if you don't know the difference between a Change Manager and a Project Manager.

                    They have overlapping skills and one can do the job of the other if they are trained, but they are not simply interchangeable.

                    *Service Management Change Manager is what I'm talking about and I think that's what the agents are talking about as well. The OP is probably thinking of a Business Change Manager - but the above statement still applies...
