Are the PCG forums any good?

I'm a newish member but never looked at the forums. They suggest you can use them to advertise your services, but in reality does any business take place as a result of this?

I've scored an ounce or two there.

They tend to be alot more serious than cuk (could they be less serious?). There have been some very interesting posts and business contacts : but nothing that ever amounted to much.

Do they still have the lounge or do people have to use www.thereallounge.com?
Down with racism. Long live miscegenation!

The Lounge is still busy - abut half all the posts made seem to be in there.

Moderation has been sorted, so the Real Lounge is totally defunct (well, apart from a few deluded loons who still poke it on occasion)

There is a huge amount of information and some seriously well-informed people. Snag is, the search engine is a bit expert friendly, so finding things can be a challenge...

The commercial fora work well, people do get business through them

          Best of all, it's a Malvolio-free zone.

But why ask here? Surely the best idea is to sign on to them (it's not that difficult) and have a good rummage around? Unlike many boards, they're also quite kind to newbies.
          Blog? What blog...?

I may well do that... but signing in with a first post "Does anyone get business here" seems a bad way to start so I thought I'd ask here.

              Try it and see!

Seriously, the answer to the question is "Yes, they do".

                Not as entertaining as CUK.

When I was at my last client they asked me if I knew anyone with similar skills to me, I posted the requirement on PCG and got a hit. The guy got 2 years out of it. So yes the fora can work. Whether posting "I design websites and need some work" would be as successful I have no idea.

A bit of all the above. The average age is higher and the answers are more considered. I'd post on there if I wanted a serious answer but here is more "fun". People do get work via the PCG fora - I have in the past.
