    democracy

Just watching the news at ten. The report of those who have fallen in Afghanistan, the report continues - that the army shall be successful in exporting democracy.

How is it we can export something we do not have?

AAAaaaa - The afghans have a leader they did not elect and so do we... job done.

Come on home boys & girls...

"Democracy is so important that we have to bomb people to give it to them."

Sorry, did Britain become the USA and we elect a president, sorry prime minister all of a sudden?

We're a parliamentery democracy, ours doesn't work quite like that.

Yes, we have the illusion of democracy: much like an abattoir often has many gates for the beasts to enter.

That's right. Electing a king, sorry a president would solve all our problems, and truly make us a democracy. You might be good at eating pies but your general banter is pretty pish.

One of the wonderful things about the English feudal system was that all able bodied men could fire a bow and arrow, pretty damn well. This tended to make the king and his followers pretty decent compared to the continentals and certainly other cultures. It is what I think actually made Great Britain great. The king had to ask for money from a parliament to go waging wars. There was a problem with one king who wanted to be more like the french king and just demand the money, and that's how we ended up with this mess of a parliamentary/representative democracy, where the representatives are for all intents and purposes actually worse than what they replaced, and most are in just as a hereditary position too.

Anyways, this Lisbon treaty: Only a few people have bothered to read it, it's pretty dire, and I'll give you this little thought: once the treaty is in place it becomes a criminal offense to argue against it. Yeah, that certainly sounds like a democracy, not.

The feudal system was a system of land tenure, nothing more. The longbow had little to do with it, there was no such thing as a feudal army.

Some of the sheen might have been taken off this state of affairs once we replaced the "head negotiator at the top table" with a mad German inbred though.
