Oldies get left behind by new technology

While more older adults than ever are using cell phones and computers, a technology gap still exists that threatens to turn senior citizens into second-class citizens, according to Florida State University researchers.

They reckon you get a bit past it after the age of 65, not only mentally but your other senses start packing up too. Do anyone of you see this in your parents or yourselves? Mine aren't particularly interested in the Internet. Are there things you've noticed people younger than yourself getting into that you're not keen on?

47 in my case - tried to charge the battery in the car yesterday. Had to read the manual several times before I could work out how to use the one button on the charger. Gave up on the hard disk recorder. Can just still cope with Windows.

No but I've noticed a propensity for a lot of my older friends to try and get into younger people. I think Viagra has a lot to blame for.

What about social networking, e.g. facebook and twitter? Is this a generational thing taking off? I must admit this passed me by. Also I don't spend all day texting.

          Age difference

When I was growing up in the 60s everything that I did seemed to have
shocked my parents. Nothing that my step son does shocks mrs BS and myself. My Dad seemed to have stopped going out on Friday night when he reached 40,However he was still surfing the internet just before he died last year at 84.
The gap between young and old is narrowing.
There are still many young people to day who cannot find a job simply because they are computer illiterate and for most jobs these days you have to apply on line.
Everyone gets left behind by new technology at some point in life. The young ones may know the latest technology but with less work experience they have less chance of using it.
It also depends on what technology you are talking about. If it's work related
then I can keep up but if it's amusement related then I am not interested.

My parents are in their early 70s and both keen users of technology. My Mum is a website moderator

You can lead a fool to wisdom but you can't make him think.

You are either a facebook, twitter person or you are not. This has nothing to do with age. If my Dad was still alive I am sure he would be a facebook fanatic.
