    Umbrella-like company in the Netherlands?

    Hi all,

I am living and working in NL for some time now, but considering going for contractor work instead of permament. Don't speak Dutch, so need assistance with paperwork and taxes.

The main incentive to switch to contracting is higher flexibility to move around within Benelux countries so umbrella working in those three countries would be perfect.

There are a lot of payroll companies in the Netherlands but they will charge you quite a bit to do it. Around 7% is quite normal. Another option is to register as self employed. To do this you set up an eenmanzaak (1 person business) with the kamer van koophandel. it cost about 50 Euro. Then you have to contact the belastingdienst (Tax Department) and apply for a VAR declaration which states to them you are self employed quoting your eenmanzaak number. it s not very difficult. But can take a bit of time. As is the case with most things in the netherlands.

If you are moving around the benelux you are better to register in belgium as you pay less tax there than the netherlands.

Another option is to get paid through a foreign company.
