Oh dear: Leading football brand loses big sponsor

Vodafone, who have sponsored Manchester United since 2000, are ending a four-year shirt deal two years early. The latest deal, worth about £9m ($15.5m) a year, began only last season and will now end in May 2006.

I wonder what the real reason is. Have Man Utd lined up more money from someone else?

Roy Keane is a non-exec at Voda. Thats the reason. Honest.

Clued up United supporters will tell you it's a price worth paying in the short to medium term if we can have our club back.

Maybe they should ask that nice Mr Abramovich if he can help. He seems quite intersted in football and has a bit of money to spare by all accounts

Man Utd's deal with Nike reaches a review point soon. I wonder if they will pull the plug as well?
