Classic programming books aka Kernighan and Ritchie

Anyone read any for other languages?
K&R's "C ...." was brilliant: concise, elegant, comprehensive primer
Computer books seem to be bloatware nowadays.

    Very well written book

on a par with div grad curl and all that in terms of splicing technical subject matter with a chatty readable style.

Agreed. You seem to pay by the kilo for technical books now.

      Thicker must be better!

Most of them are a waste of money as the reference information is available on the web for nothing, usually.

I have shelves full of O'Reilly books on all kinds of subjects and they look great in the study - but most of the information is completely obsolete.

You've come right out the other side of the forest of irony and ended up in the desert of wrong.

Why would you care since you have no relationship to IT (or programming for this matter) whatsoever? I doubt very much you could program a washing machine tbh.
