    My neck's getting worse...

Sat in a draft in a pub last Tuesday night. Woke up on Wednesday in agony, took half an hour to get out of bed and sobbed in the shower leaning my head against the wall...

Spoke to a lovely nurse at NHS Direct (an unsung success story in my book) - who told me what to get in the way of drugs and heat-pads from Boots. Did as I was told and my neck improved over the course of the week.

Unfortunately today my neck seems to be getting worse at the same rate that it got better, I was hoping that it would be cleared after a week, but it doesn't look like it.

    Owww...

I don't understand? You got a sore neck from a draft?

    Is this a woman thing?

Are you sure a vampire bat didn't sneak in and have a nibble when you were distracted?

This happened to my uncle Vlad and he's been un-dead ever since.

Now that made me chortle (and wince...)

I get very bad neck problems. A combination of damage from too much football and a particular set of muscles that are also tight. They get tighter whenever I get a virus like a cold and this gives me an 8 hour headache which can only be alleviated with 4 strong ibuprofen and 4 strong paracetamol tablets over that 8 hours. Don't forget you can mix ibuprofen and paracetamol.

My suggestions are ibuprofen first, hot bottle on the affected area second, stretching the muscle in that area third. The stretching is probably only worth it if you suffer regularly in the same place and best done daily. I often think it is too late once I feel the muscles have tightened.

I'm sorry to say that sometimes these problems do not go away. You have to learn how best to alleviate the symptoms.

As for "Don't forget you can mix ibuprofen and paracetamol." The nurse told me to buy these but I forgot to ask her how to take them.

One tablet of each? (200mg ibuprofen tabs)

Personally I find ibuprofen does not do much. diclofenac is far better : but you need a prescription for it.
