    Swindon goes wireless

    Free public Wi-Fi scheme

Swindon Borough Council plan for all 186,000 citizens to have blanket "Wi-Fi mesh" coverage by April 2010
I can see this catching on. Where Swindon leads, the UK follows.

Interesting, a few cities in America abandoned this idea as it would have been challenged by the telcos as anti-competitive.

Indeed. We have some of the fastest broadband here at 50mb.

We have some of the most innovative roundabounts too and if you are interested in concrete 1970's architecture it's probably only 2nd to Croydon.

A never ending source of enjoyment.

You can get 100mb here out in the countryside.

Although the locals do have problems with roundabouts, so there aren't too many of them.
Insanity: repeating the same actions, but expecting different results.

Ditto here some years ago. BT was most upset at having the local authorities proposing to steal their business.

No speed cameras either, it's fast becoming the Utopian dream.
Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: why not marry safe science if you love it so much. In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired. - Cave Johnson

But that would imply BT were providing a service? Kenya is better connected than Somerset.

I'll give you 170 billion Zimbabwean dollars for it. I'll even chuck in a complementary wheelbarrow for you to carry it around in.
