I know that links to images sometimes get hijacked but I have only ever seen that once in, maybe, 10 years of using web forums.

Or upload an image to a photo gallery (various people here do) or facebook (like Diver's hideous hand injury or NF's palindromic underground carriages) or your own web site (FaQQer & others) and link to it.

Personally, I find in-line images in fora make them unbearable to read. Ditto for animated GIFs in signatures.
