I've done a slightly stupid thing

I threw my VAT return into a post box without a stamp. I'd forgotten you need one these days.

How do I retrieve the situation (if not the letter)?

I've paid the money - this is just the green sheet.

At least this won't happen when VAT filing goes on-line next April...

Ah - I didn't realise you could do that now. Ta krytonsheep.

It will still get there, however they will have to pay the postage, so you will owe them and then they will put you in jail.

Ring the VAT office tomorrow and see what they suggest.

You will owe them £1.32 the next time you pay...

That is exactly what I did with my first frank-less envelope! I'm glad it's not just me.

They cashed my cheque anyway. The VAT-man must have seen sense and, if there was a 40p postal charge, paid it to get at the juicy several-grand cheque inside. So just phone up if it gets to a few days before your deadline and they haven't cashed it.

Yeah but he already said it was just a return not a cheque.
