Industry 'has declined more under Labour than Thatcher'

A study of figures from the Office for National Statistics showed that manufacturing's share of the economy declined almost three times faster under Tony Blair and Gordon Brown than it did when Lady Thatcher was in power in the 1980s and early 1990s.

It's hardly trolling when popular opinion is deserting labour like rats from the proverbial ship

These days the biggest manufacturing plants in western Europe are largely assembly plants putting together bits brought from overseas or from small specialist factories. That means that transport costs are an essential part of the equation. If you have the most expensive diesel in Europe, you're not going to have much of a manufacturing industry. Countries with lower transport costs and efficient ports, like Germany, Japan and South Korea still have a very solid manufacturing sector, despite their high labour costs.

Make parts locally if it's that expensive to transport.

The reality is that the West shifted manufacturing to Asia for reasons of costs as well as ecology.

Now the West can enjoy fresh clean air whilst looking for proper jobs to do.

        Have a nice day...

If UK Govt did not bail the banks out, why did BBC today quoted cost of bank bailout to UK as £850 bln, maybe it was your Xmas bonus brillo!?

Read the post carefully. Which American banks did the UK government bail out?
