    New Car Spare Wheel

It seems to be a growing trend for new cars to come without a spare wheel or having to pay extra for a spare wheel.

It is putting me off buying the new car that I want as there is not even an option as a extra - I don't want to suffer a blown tyre on the motorway and not be able to change the wheel with too kiddies in the back. Am I worrying un-necessarily ?

My son's sporty car with wide tyres has a skinny get you home only spare wheel so maybe you could follow the same principle and carry a dustbin lid with some holes drilled in it.

Or just nick one from somebody else.

A new car will either have:

      A spare wheel.

      A space saver spare wheel.

      Run flat tyres.

Or a can of tyreweld under the passenger seat as in the wife's old Clio 182, gotta love those crazy French.

It's worth noting that some cars have space savers that will only fit on the back as they won't fit over the brake disc, should you get a puncture on the front you'll have to swap it with a back wheel and put the spare on the back.
Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: why not marry safe science if you love it so much. In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired. - Cave Johnson

Fun thing with most of my cars is that if you have to change the wheel, what do you do with the one you've taken off? It won't fit in the hole for the spare, and won't fit in the front seat...

Have the chauffeur take it back to the château on the bus?

Leaving girly guarding the flat wheel whilst you go and fetch the 4x4 is only to be attempted once.

If you do suffer a blown tyre on the motorway you should

                  1) pull over and stop on the hard shoulder
                  2) Get yourself and all passengers out of the car and some distance up the embankment
                  3) phone for assistance

At no point should you actually go about changing the wheel yourself whilst on the hard shoulder, its one of the most dangerous places in the country
