How did this happen? Who's to blame? Well certainly there are those more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable, but again truth be told, if you're looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror.

That would be sensible, so clearly out.

Did you see that Ben Bernanke is on the front cover of Time magazine as "Man of the Year"

With that, and Obama as recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize, 2009 has been the most Kafkaesque year for a long time.

That would cause collapse in tax revenue - money have to move around as at pretty much every step they get taxed one way or another.

If the UK does have to go the IMF for a bail out then that is what the IMF will impose.

That is not going to happen though.

When Denis Healey went to the IMF in 1976 he didn't really need to - the Treasury civil servants got their sums wrong.

On the plus side, the conditions imposed by the IMF did start to put the economy back on the road to recovery long before Thatcher arrived.

The government stop spending money, you knob.

However, if everyone else deliberately stopped spending money to cause the revenue collapse as you describe then the government would have to address the issue rather than hide it.
