If I recall correctly, he did get thrown out of St Andrews Golf Club, which is worse than being caught as a spy.

Among them was Norman Barrett, 73, who joined the circus at the age of 12 and is now one of Britain’s longest serving ringmasters and a world authority in the training of Australian parrots.
