    The traditional annual "Christmas sales beat expectations " story

    Every year in December, there is the "high street retailers predict this will be a terrible year for takings in the Xmas shopping" story.

    And then every January there is the "Sales Beat Expectations!" story.

    Is there anyone on here old enough to remember a time when these stories weren't churned out every year? I'm only in my mid-40s, and I can't.
    My all-time favourite Dilbert cartoon, this is: BTW, a Dumpster is a brand of skip, I think.
