    2005 gobbledegook award

The 2005 winner of the annual Plain English Campaign award for gobbledegook is welsh labour MP Rhodri Morgan, Welsh First Minister, for:

"The only thing which isn't up for grabs is no change and I think it's fair to say it's all to play for, except for no change."

Mr Morgan also won in 2004.

Amazingly, Prescott isn't in the top nine. Perhaps they think he does it on purpose. Yesterday I heard him refer to the smoke from Hemel Hempstead as containing "Carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide and hydrocardigans."

An honourable mention for 14-year-old Lib Dem milk monitor Sarah Teather for inquiring about polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in the Commons yesterday.
